The present paper presents a model of learning system, which consists of students in a lesson, an observer and a tutor to guide the lesson. Students follow a learning design with activities that may have optional learning objects, thus offering multiple learning paths for students. Based on this model, both the concepts of learning status and learning traces are developed. The model defines the learning trace of a student as a vector of two components. The first component is the student ID and the second one is the number of completed activities. The learning trace of the lesson is presented as a matrix composed of all the vectors representing the learning trace. Finally, the proposal is illustrated by an example in LAMS.
