Abstract: This study is intended to design a tangible music learning companion/robot to enhance the music learning as well as appreciation training for primary school students. Through taking the advantages of tangible user interface and design, we aim to promote learners’ motivation in learning music and make them active learners while they are interacting with the tangible devices. To understand students’ needs in order to design the suitable tangible devices to meet their expectations, the questionnaire survey was conducted to the target users to collect the related information and their desirable functions of tangible music companions/robots. The results will be used as primary guidelines for designing the tangible music learning companion. It is hoped that the tangible music learning companion will benefit the target learners for enhancing their music education.
