Challenges of Modular Structures of Study introduced by the Bologna Process - an Integrated Approach to meet them

The Bologna Process is an ongoing major issue in the European higher education scenery. Agreed in 1999, there has been started the conversion of the studies. This causes various challenges for all sectors within a university. Mainly two aspects affecting members of an university are covered within this paper: organizational and didactical aspects of modularization requirements concerning lecturers, the administration of the university, the examination office and obviously the students. Especially the requirements addressed to lecturers are at least bivalent: didactically they have to meet student’s expectations of various programs of study and organizational they have to meet increasing demands on informing students and administrative persons. To meet these requirements, we propose an integrated approach that allows the electronic representation of study programs and show how linking abstract modules of the study programs with concrete lectures can cope with these challenges.
