
Combining online discussion and peer evaluation to enhance learning outcomes

Abstract
An action research was conducted in an educational technology course in spring 2007 with a total of 69 undergraduate students. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of peer evaluation in an asynchronous online discussion environment in improving students' work. The results of study showed that students' assignment grades were statistically improved after conducting peer evaluation; the points earned in online discussion positively correlated with the peer-evaluated assignment grades. In addition, 62% of the students agreed and strongly agreed that doing peer evaluation in an online discussion environment helped their learning and saved class time.
