Abstract

Authentic learning has emerged as a critical pedagogical goal and interest for students' long-term development of learning and performance. In this paper, a web-based scenario approach is proposed to facilitate authentic learning in a variety of contexts by providing students with opportunities to apply knowledge in a performance space, to integrate real data from the Internet, and to gain a sense of professionalism and authenticity. In order to improve the design of authentic learning experience, the paper presents five elements and five steps for effective web-based scenario building. Finally, the paper illustrates scenario building in discipline-specific curriculum and discusses future directions for web-based authentic learning.
