Abstract

This NSF-funded project is designed to develop two interrelated tools, Inquiry Skill Analyzer (iSA) and Inquiry Activity Portal (iAP), in the context of earth science to help middle school science teachers in their inquiry-based science teaching. The goal of iSA is to assist teachers in analyzing their own science inquiry skills as well as those of their students to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses, to monitor progress, and to better utilize teaching time. The goal of iAP is to assist teachers in developing skills in selecting, designing, implementing, and evaluating technology-supported inquiry activities to build science inquiry skills in context, especially in weak areas identified through the iSA. The product prototype as well as preliminary teacher and student data from the first year pilot will be presented.
