Integrating the Use of Computers in Elementary Rural Schools

The intent of the study is to identify the particular needs of rural teachers in terms of computer training and in the adoption of digital tools in their math classes. Fourteen teachers from a public elementary school in a low-social-class neighborhood in Mexico City and fourteen teachers from six schools in a small town called Atlacomulco volunteered to participate. The computer-based teaching practices in mathematics classes of rural teachers were compared with those of the suburban teachers. The study concludes that there is no difference in the teaching approach of suburban and rural teachers when they use computers in their math classes. The results of the present study may be useful to those related to the training of teachers in the use of computers in elementary education.
