Abstract
This paper discusses Google Earth as a technological tool used in creating an interdisciplinary unit for use in the K-8 level. Although technology may be available in classrooms, teachers may not always know how to effectively implement it into the curriculum. Addressed in this paper are: (1) An assignment given to pre-service teachers, allowing them to practice the meaningful implementation of technology into instruction, and (2) An example of an interdisciplinary unit, designed by a group of pre-service teachers, which effectively implements technology into instruction for more meaningful learning. Included are the national standards addressed in this interdisciplinary unit. The presentation will review the approach to teaching pre-service teachers how to prepare interdisciplinary units; and it will also provide an opportunity for participants to observe Google Earth, by taking a virtual group tour of San Antonio and some selected points of interest.
