Abstract

There is nowadays a quite general consensus that the integration of video materials (authentic whenever possible) offers an effective added value in CALL applications. However, a critical analysis of a selection of existing applications reveals that a number of constraints have to be met to guarantee a pedagogically efficient use of video materials. In this talk, we will map these constraints, building further on the expertise we have gained through the Lingu@tic project (http://www.kuleuven-kortrijk.be/linguatic) which aims at the development of the FRANEL learning environment for learners of French and Dutch as a foreign language, based on broadcasts from regional TV-channels.
