Abstract

Abstract: The internet has made it much easier to get to know cultures different from our own. But is this really happening? Are we just mixing with more people similar to ourselves? Should intercultural or multicultural courses be part of academic and teacher education courses? Are the connections we make in super sophisticated intercultural projects superficial or do they have long term effects in bridging between different cultures. Is the extensive time and effort needed to be part of these projects justified? Is there a minimum length of time required for a project to build bridges between cultures? Is the subject chosen to work on in these exchanges paramount? What are the secrets to make these projects succeed? What about cultures in conflict? Can these online intercultural projects improve relations or are they just ice breakers for a small number of "convinced" people. The panelists consist of lecturers representing 5 very different cultures who have experience working on inter and multicultural projects.
