Abstract

Existing educational software taxonomies typically categorize software by their near-endless potential uses in a variety of educational settings. This grouping leads to overly complicated and unusable classification systems. This article proposes a new taxonomy based on the software's intended function as defined by the software developers and common business practices. The end result is a simple and highly usable taxonomy that can be readily applied to a public repository of educational software titles.
