Podcasting involves students in topic research, writing, the organization of information, interview techniques, digital recording, editing and preparation of a product for an audience. These are all elements of NETS*T II, and are of primary importance to preservice and inservice professional educators. A focus upon the basic components of podcasts is integral to the discussion, so as to emphasize the ease of use, and will continue to the case studies in which the inservice professional educators are integrating podcasts into their elementary learning environment. The major aspects of podcasts to be addressed will be: basic audio editing software; microphone headsets; sources of music and effects; studio space; going mobile; selection of guests for shows; script writing; distribution; acting; and, a very brief history of educational radio. Further, technical aspects and creating a podcast “show” will be discussed in detail; however, a significant amount of focus will be palced upon the podcasts integrated within the elementary learning environment.
