
The Role of Theory and Technology in Learning Video Production: The Challenge of Change

Abstract
As with most forms of electronic media, video production has largely been redefined in recent years. Resources previously only available to broadcasters are finding their way into elementary schools and onto the hobbyists' desktop. This shift has expanded the audience for production education beyond those preparing for a career in broadcast television. Video production is now being applied in a wide range of fields, and many non-media professionals are discovering the need to produce quality video programming. Social scientists conducting fieldwork, teachers in the classroom, or video enthusiasts desiring to improve their skills with a camcorder are all potential students of production technique.
