Abstract

This paper reports on the implementation of the Virtual Health Environment (VHE) for undergraduate nurses at ACU National (Australian Catholic University). Nurse lecturers within the ACU School of Nursing re-designed the undergraduate nursing program to incorporate flexible delivery of content through the use of communication technologies and online learning opportunities. The VHE comprises an actual simulation (hospital) ward in conjunction with a website in anticipation to creating real-to-life clinical scenarios. In principle, the VHE incorporates the use of a hospital clinical information system providing access to patient information, and e-learning using electronic access to lecture notes, reference materials and flexible delivery.
