Digitalizing learning and teaching is an important topic for the FernUniversität in Hagen, Germany. Though digital teaching takes place in various ways, it is noticeable that implementing digital learning means a huge change for a large number of lecturers. For this reason, two projects were initialized to promote the digitization of teaching: The funding program ‘Innovative Teaching’ (FILeh) was developed to modernize distance education by introducing digital innovation practices and approaches in teaching and learning. The project ‘Lehrbetrieb’ (‘teaching operations’) is dealing with the digitalization of teaching and learning and serves to increasing quality and innovation in distance learning and distance learning. In one of its three strategic lines of development the progressive digitization of degree programs is realized. Initialization and multiplier measures are methods to implement the innovation within the degree programs. Both measures are characterized by the fact that they are linked to specific university contexts. Since these are promoted top-down, but are designed and implemented bottom-up, a clear commitment of the lecturers can be seen.
