Supporting Teacher Education Faculty in Technology Integration: Hands Off? Hands On? PROCEEDINGS

The MIMIC Project at Cleveland State University, funded by a PT3 Implementation Grant, mentors and supports teacher preparation faculty in integrating technology into their courses. Each participating faculty member has a technology proficient classroom teacher mentor and receives incentive funds for supplies. MentorMentee interactions average six hours a month in an academic year. The MIMIC staff offers added support ranging from tutoring to help in the selection of educational hardware and software. Faculty and mentor activities are documented through monthly logs and journals. This paper explores ways faculty are supported and how they progress from dependence on the MIMIC Project to personal responsibility for technology integration. Excerpts from logs and journals along with experiences of the MIMIC staff and Educational Technologist provide insights into the frustrations, triumphs, and “do's” and “don'ts” of creating a successful environment for technology integration.
