Using SignUpGenius to Assist With Education Student Communication and Scheduling

Abstract
In this study, researchers from two universities in different states explored the use of SignUpGenius, a free Web 2.0 tool, for communication with students in their respective Education Programs regarding appointment scheduling. The following questions guided this investigation: (a) How can instructors better facilitate communication and scheduling of meetings or appointments with students? and (b) How can instructors in asynchronous online courses schedule virtual meetings to facilitate relationship building in online contexts where instructors do not interact with students face-to-face? The researchers found the scheduling tool easy to use, and almost all students used the scheduling tool to initiate an appointment with their respective instructor; thus, the researchers inferred that the students also found SignUpGenius easy to use. An additional benefit was the fact that students were able to reschedule appointments on their own through the scheduling tool.
