Abstract
Technology integration plays a large role in preparing pre-service teachers. In a world where people are rarely disconnected from some type of assistive device, it is imperative that we pay attention to the benefits and distractions that technology offers when thinking about constructing developmentally appropriate learning environments. This paper will begin to discuss the findings from a recent study looking at teacher preparation candidates, their use of multitouch devices in instruction, and the most effective ways to teach children when technology is present. Specific attention is paid to the concept of Complex Instruction and cooperative learning. Connecting social skills, cooperative learning, and technology may offer one way to best mimic our natural day-to-day environments, and in doing so, illuminate what may be our most effective learning environment as well.
