Abstract
Nowadays technology is an enormous part of education and it has been increasingly integrated into today’s classroom. However, not all schools have the same opportunities to access and use technological tools in Turkey. The technology access is limited in rural areas and some low-population areas do not have Internet connection. The aim of this study is to determine rural and non-rural area elementary education teachers’ perceptions of using technology in their classroom and the role of technology in education. Data collected from 21 elementary teachers in rural and non-rural schools in Turkey. The result indicated that elementary teachers use variety technology tools in class activities and to promote students’ learning, especially use of computer (20 teachers mentioned) and projector (18 teachers mentioned). The result indicated that there is no difference between rural school teachers and non-rural teachers’ use of variety of technologies.
