Abstract

This paper describes the research design and main findings of an ongoing longitudinal study that has been conducted for almost two decades about the incorporation and use of ICT in EFL courses in primary and secondary (1-9) schools in a northern state of Mexico. The framework for the study is based on the theories of diffusion and change, and on a categorization of the applications of ICT in EFL teaching. The variables studied are: (a) equipment; (b) uses (knowledge, types, purposes, availability, frequency of use, regulations, relationship with other educational resources, dates of introduction, human resources, training, and problems); and, (c) results and limitations. For data collection, the researchers conduct interviews with school principals, EFL teachers, and groups of students who are taking EFL courses. Additionally, students are required to respond to a questionnaire and the researchers conduct class observations.
