Abstract

This paper reports on how a large-scale federally-funded project used low-cost technology to a) connect middle/high school science teachers in rural areas with university-based instructional coaches, and b) support the video data collection and coding of teacher instructional practice for evaluation and research. Project technology included video capture of classroom instruction using small GoPro cameras, cloud computing to share large video files, and synchronous video conferencing to support coaching sessions. The paper discusses the technology utilized, as well as preliminary research and evaluation findings.
