Abstract: Scientific visualization techniques are widely used in today's research labs, but remain rather a curiosity for the production of teaching tools. Here we focus on the new media's challenging possibilities to visualize systems with higher dimensionality, in particular topologically complicated systems and eventual modifications. By presenting visual teaching materials produced inside the framework of “CCN - the Chemistry Contact Network” for the higher education of chemistry at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, we will discuss different visual approaches in respect to their general reusability in other contexts and domains. Some specific examples for teaching inorganic, and structural chemistry will be shown, as anaglyphs, schematic animations and interactive 3D elements.
