Abstract

This paper reports mid-point findings from a year-long study of the effects of One-on-One Laptop Wireless Computing in a self-contained at-risk student 8th grade classroom in a school with 99.9% poverty and 99.9% minority population in a large urban area. Each student in the study classroom has had her/his own personal laptop computer for the entire school year for use at home and school with a wireless network and Internet connectivity provided in the classroom. For the purposes of this paper, only the effects on student achievement and time-on-task are reported along with the dependent technology variables that impact one-on-one wireless computer programs.
