New information from the learning sciences informed the design of a summer institute and its supportive community portal system, the ITS Learning and Teaching Portal. The portal supported an institute offered by the Information Technology in Science (ITS) Center, an interdisciplinary graduate program providing coordinated research experiences and transformed classroom applications for science education specialists. This paper details the integrated design of the summer experience and portal system to facilitate the experiences of all ITS community members involved in the professional development experience.
