Abstract

Today's economic upheavals, downsizing, layoff, merger, acquisition, and bankruptcies cost thousands of workers their jobs. The American Psychological Association estimated that over 45% of workers list that job insecurity has a significant impact on work stress and 54% list that job satisfaction has a significant impact on stress levels in the workplace. The purpose of this quantitative descriptive comparative research study is to examine the role that an acquisition played on sales department employees of the acquired organization and sales department employees of the acquiring organization. The role was examined by comparing job performance, personal stress level, and job satisfaction of employees after 24 months of acquisition. The results of the research study indicated that there is no significant difference in the perceived personal stress level, job satisfaction, and self-perceptions of job performance reported by acquisition survivors of acquiring and acquired organizations 24 months after the acquisition.
