Abstract

This paper explores the background of the development of online delivery of academic material particularly for the K-12 environment focusing on the specific iTunesU technology that has become widely available and and has been adopted my many state public education systems across the United States. The data presented in this paper demonstrates that even though the technology has been deployed there are important barriers to the use of the tools among the K-12 instructors with lack of equipment, lack of training, a lack of understanding of the benefits of the technology being some of the key barriers. The data also demonstrates that instructors are using word processing and communication software as the primary tools and there is a lack of time to adopt new tools such as iTunesU.
