Abstract

The theory of Transformative Learning has been increasingly viewed as a key component to the success of dynamic programs in higher education (Palmer & Zajonc, 2010). This paper will focus upon the suggested steps involved with integrating the principles of Transformative Learning into the distance learning environment. The authors will discuss the basics of Transformative Learning, how it applies to distance learning, and provide anecdotal evidence from their own experiences in teaching an online graduate course. Supported by research from the field, this paper will be focused upon how to best provide synergy for experience, contemplation and transformation in distance learning classroom. Theoretical and pragmatic perspectives will be included.
