Abstract

This paper presents the results of the qualitative phase of a research project whose aim is to design and implement a learner-centered e-learning environment to support lifelong learning in universities through combining and extending Learning Management Systems (LMS) and ePortfolio Systems. These systems are already common in universities and are used by lecturers and students to support various types of activities. The problems that exist using these systems to support lifelong learning from the academic perspective were identified through in-depth interviews with lecturers at an earlier stage of the project. This paper focuses on the results of the interviews with students where we tried to capture their point of view. We analyze a gap between LMS and ePortfolio, which hinders provision of full support on an e-learning system level and discuss potential technical solutions.
