Abstract

Abstract: As a 21st century learning tool Adobe Connect offers the flexibility students living in remote areas need to complete graduate studies online with many of the face-to-face class amenities. Adobe Connect makes it possible for busy teachers with families to take graduate courses and still contribute to their academic environment. This preliminary study looks at a group of 30 teachers working toward master’s degrees in Elementary Education with specialization in mathematics. Each semester the program offers online and face-to-face classes where students are learning elementary mathematics and developing leadership skills to become math coaches, instruction supervisors, and math coordinators. Using Adobe Connect as the online environment has had its advantages and disadvantages, instructionally and from the participant’s viewpoint. The following study explains findings and suggests Adobe Connect can be very helpful in creating a flexible environment that promotes 21st century learning skills.
