Abstract

The primary goal of this study was to determine how effectively student teachers from a large comprehensive institution have used technology to compliment their teaching. Afterward, researchers compared these findings to national data. To accomplish this goal the researchers reviewed the Teacher Work Sample (TWS) portfolios student teachers were required to develop. The TWS is an authentic assessment instrument designed to guide student teachers in designing, implementing, reviewing, and adjusting instruction. The narrative in which the student teachers described their use of technology was compared to the U.S. Department of Education (USDE): Measures of Teacher and Student Technology Use (2008). The results of the study revealed both strengths and weaknesses concerning the student teachers’ use of technology to enhance their teaching goals and in comparison to practicing teachers in the national study.
