Blackboard versus Wikis: What Is Your Preference?

The rapid growth of the Internet technologies has brought convenience and diversity to e-learning. Blackboard learning system has been a dominant tool for course management. However, Wikis have become a more popular tool for instructors concerning e-learning since Web 2.0 technologies started to grow. The purpose of the study is to compare the two e-learning tools – Blackboard and Wikis regarding their educational benefits and drawbacks. Results of the study, which will be based on the analysis of relevant literature and interview data will help instructors obtain a better understanding of Blackboard and Wikis and avoid any misunderstanding or myth of those two tools. Furthermore, instructors can choose their appropriate and preferable tool(s) to deliver and manage their courses.
