The Mentor-Connector project joins high school students in the Niagara Catholic District School Board with teacher candidates recruited from local and international universities. The Mentor-Connector Program taps into the learning styles of 21st century students by establishing an online forum (similar to FaceBook and MySpace) that anonymously matches students in grade 9 and 10 with eMentors who possess the skills to provide academic support and a compassionate, caring, and a non-threatening zone for open communication. This paper presents the impact of the project on student learning and highlights eMentors’ enhanced understanding of teaching in a flat classroom.
