Abstract
The early years of teaching are often the most difficult for beginning teachers, as they struggle with complex issues of teaching and learning in relative isolation. One possible solution is that of new teacher groups, where beginning teachers interact with fellow beginning teachers to explore issues of practice in a supportive environment. This paper presents the creation of an online new teacher group for beginning English language arts teachers, entitled the Community of New English Teachers (C-NET). The creation of C-NET is grounded in the framework of new teacher groups, ubiquitous technology and reflective practice. The features of C-NET are then introduced and explained in relation to this framework. The paper concludes with a consideration of the online new teacher group as a place to create a community of support for beginning English teachers.
