Abstract

Lessons learned from the teaching of a course authoring package for self-paced Web-Based Training (WBT) in an online, asynchronous environment. In this 16-week graduate course, students learned Adobe Captivate 3; the course was taught using Blackboard. All students developed the same lesson for a non-software-based topic and a software-based topic. All students developed a final project on a topic of their own choosing. Considerations and recommendations are provided for the following topics: assignments/projects, documentation for assignments (executables of finished projects, storyboards, templates, and standards), grading rubrics, and student self-assessment. Additional considerations are offered for course pacing, feedback, and technical support.
