Survey Research on Information Education at a University in Japan

Students who first learned the subject Information matriculated in various universities in April 2006. Researchers expect to improve the information and computer literacy of students. Therefore, we clarified the students' volition, computer literacy, etc., based on a readiness survey of the students who matriculated in the university and an evaluation of lessons by the students at the end of the semester. The readiness survey revealed that the students lacked information and computer literacy. Therefore, we can implement appropriate information education adapted to the students' readiness if the teachers focus on the basic content. The subject of information education taught at our university aims to promote such basic content. The evaluation of the lessons by the students revealed that they positively appreciated the subject. In contrast to the suggestions of related studies, we consider that it is a good decision to continue the lesson being taught currently.
