Abstract

Information Technology (IT) careers are growing in the world marketplace. It is important that the next generation of professionals be aware of these rewarding and diverse careers and the educational pathways to these careers. The Comprehensive Information Technology Education in Rural Appalachia Project was developed to provide middle and high school Science, Mathematics, and Technology teachers with IT skills and career information to enhance their current curriculum. The main goal of this project is to interest middle and high school students in considering IT as a future career choice. The project does this by exposing middle and high school teachers and students to IT professionals and projects at IT companies and facilitating the learning of a new and exciting IT skill (3D graphics) to enhance their Math, Science, or Technology lessons.
