Abstract

In the information society, the ability to search for information in electronic repositories effectively, to evaluate claims accurately, to ask the "right" questions etc. are important cognitive skills which need to be trained and facilitated. In an ongoing empirical project, we are concerned with the question how the layperson can be supported in evaluating claims made in the mass media about certain environmental risks (mainly oil accidents in the oceans).
