Abstract

This paper explores the use of asynchronous and synchronous text-based communication tools and procedures to encourage learning in an international distance course. Students use a variety of Internet-based communication technologies and reflect their experience and learning in their blogs. The result of this study suggests that in international distance learning, students' different tacit understanding is revealed by different pedagogical use of communication tools.
