Abstract
In this paper we present the evolution of a repository for training materials on agriculture and natural resources management in the tropics, the Online Learning Resources (OLR), maintained by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). The OLR has developed an application profile (CG LOM Core) with the goal to improve the visibility, accessibility and interoperability of educational resources within the CGIAR and its collaborating partners. It addresses the needs of our linguistic and cultural diverse clientele in the developing world. The application profile has been created by selecting and refining a subset of elements from the IEEE Learning Object Metadata (LOM). One metadata standard other than the LOM itself that has been significant for the CG LOM Core is the Agricultural Metadata Element Set (AgMES), developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to describe information resources in the domain of agriculture.
