Abstract

Developing career-ready students is imperative if we are going to address the projected needs of the United States’ job market. There continues to be an increasing need to capture students’ interest in STEM fields as well as to attract students to pathways that lead to STEM professions. The purpose of this study was to explore potential barriers to the implementation of a serious game in the middle school classroom. Data were collected from middle school students and teachers across multiple school districts. While findings of this study showed a positive relationship between game implementation and student learning it also highlighted barriers that impede successful implementation of serious games in the middle school classroom. For the purposes of this paper, only teacher data will be explored.
