The project is a new edition of the textbook ‘Local ’Government in North Carolina’ as an interactive Open Educational Resource (OER) textbook that can be used at the k12 level as well as material in Citizen Academies. We plan to enhance the e-book with additional multimedia features, augmented reality and an accompanying podcast. The resource ‘Local Government in North Carolina’ has been updated periodically (every 5-10 years) since 1993. We intend to make the new e-book edition easier to update and extendible by tapping into the open educational resources community. We particularly want to strengthen the abilities of School of Government students, both traditional MPA graduate students and non-traditional adult learners in our classes and conferences, to make use of digital technologies and multimedia storytelling for enhancing local government relationships. Hence, we intend to use and showcase technologies such as augmented reality, podcasts, QR codes, social networking that can offer effective means of community engagement as part of the publication.
