Inter-cognitive communication for immersive virtual education: four robot solutions.

Blending virtual reality and robot-mediated communication has been shown to support transnational communication for learning at schools and in Higher Education Institutes. The challenge though is to identify cost-effective solutions to mediate international inter-cognitive and intra-cognitive communication for task-related interactions of multiple modes within the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM). To address this problem the paper presents four pragmatic solutions of inter-cognitive communication designed to support students' intra-cognitive communication when engaged in tasks that require the remote navigation of a robot around a maze. Metrics for evaluating the efficacy of the robot-mediated solution and a summary of the effectiveness are presented. It is posited that inter-cognitive and intra-cognitive communication in virtual reality will become commonplace in near-future industrial, design and education contexts.
