Abstract

Creating an environment in which the adult learner perceives they are all unique individuals with unique needs rather than just an identification number in cyberspace is an essential component to student success. There must a sense of importance in constructing intimate learning communities, communicating with the adult learner. Providing the learner support through a structure for personalization for continuous communication may well be the answer. Reducing the “distance” in distance education is an avenue to create the feeling of personalization for the students. Building a relationship and having the learning and instructor holding each other accountable provides motivation that leads to achievement.
