Abstract

Since the late 1990s interactive whiteboards have moved to the forefront of the classroom. The literature surrounding interactive whiteboards (IWB) has been positive and commended for the potential properties of these instructional tools to teach any subject. However, in most school classrooms, the IWBs are used just as a traditional whiteboard. Its interactive features and functions have not been employed into the teaching and learning. In this paper, we will present a literature review, introduce ActivInspire, a program to create interactive multimedia units for learning and teaching, and then introduce our experiences on the use of ActivInspire to create interactive instructional units that include text, graphics, and embedded videos. A summary with tips and cautions will be included as well.
