Abstract

There is a need to improve course accessibility and guide student learning by supplementing classroom-learning activities for adult students to take an Operating Systems (OS) course at a branch campus of the University of Arizona. The paper presents a case study on designing and delivering a hybrid OS course. In addition to weekly face-to-face meetings, the hybrid course successfully employed online learning components to allow students more flexibility to manage their learning and extend interactions and collaborations among students and the class instructor. The hybrid-learning environment inspired students to engage in learning OS concepts and techniques, and fostered their learning productivities. The online learning data also made it possible for the class instructor to closely monitor student-learning performances and provided personalized coaching for students to learn OS.
