Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore characteristics of internet users who seek health information online, as well as factors affecting their behaviors in seeking health information. Secondary data analysis was conducted using raw data from the PEW Internet Health Tracking Survey 2012. The sample in this research (N=2,226) consisted of adult internet users. To measure the relationship between the dependent variable of “seeks any health information” and factors’ influencing the search of health information using the internet, a logistic regression model was used. Findings indicate that factors such as age, sex, having a minor child, being an Asian American or Pacific Islander, or being in or having had a college degree were the predictors of online health information seeking activities or behaviors. Further research traced internet use with positive health behaviors are imperative in order to aid health education, health promotion and risk reduction.
