Meaningful Learning of Math and Sciences Using Wolfram Alpha Widgets

This paper describes an ongoing educative project based on use and construction of widgets by using Wolfram Alpha platform at higher education level in the engineering area. Widgets are being integrated to Physics and Mathematics curricula as Project Oriented Learning method. In that implementation, teacher’s widgets are first used by students to deep some concepts of each specific course, but after, students should construct their own widgets applying other concepts of that course and additional concepts of related courses in the same area. This practice works as curriculum integration, but in addition, the two stages of this activity help to develop basic and high level thinking. Description of didactic design combining Wolfram Alpha widget developer and Weebly platform to set up the widgets, the current advances, as well as the courses involved and the next steps to train teachers and to assess the outcomes of project are presented.
