Abstract

The last few years, Information and communication technology (ICT) has been introduced in education at a very rapid pace. Large amounts of resources (time and money) are invested in the development of educational resources, to be used in the new learning environments. Reuse of existing material is often cited as an approach to reduce the investments involved. Several research projects focus on the management of educational content, often by associating metadata to the resources. Research about the reusability of documents is much more rare, because it is much more difficult. In this paper we report on our research on reusability of educational documents. This is part of a PhD research in the context of ARIADNE. We have investigated different educational environments, focussing on the type of documents that are typically used. We have developed a classification of document use, based on four questions: how, when, who and what.
