Abstract
Online discussion is a principal form of interaction in Web-based learning, but existing Web forum software has limited capabilities to facilitate interaction and collaborative discourse. This paper describes how we have developed Web annotation and highlighting facilities, and how we have integrated these into the Moodle discussion forums. We outlines the community reaction to our work to date. The paper further explains how the use and sharing of annotations by discussion participants assists recall and reflective thinking, and argues for the pedagogical significance. Finally, it provides the future direction of our work and a summary of the contributions of our work.
