Abstract
Authors representing industry, career development, and cognitive science identify and discuss issues driving change in workforce education programs. This paper discusses areas of opportunity for the teacher education community to make significant contributions to strengthen our future workforce and promote economic stability. Industry perspectives include current issues driving changes in workforce education and the skills required for success in the global innovation economy. Essential elements of career development theory, key issues and decision points in youth’s IT and STEM career trajectory are outlined. An emerging view of “technological thinking” among youth will is discussed.
